In 2026, international auto components manufacturer Gestamp introduced a new generation of Ges-FastForm hot stamping technology, which allows boron steel parts to be hardened and formed in just 6 seconds. The new technology eliminates the need for subsequent laser cutting, significantly upgrading the traditional hot stamping process and spurring an upgrade in the design standards of hot molding dies in China.
The new technology is based on a system of ultra-fast zonal temperature control in the die cavity. This places significantly higher demands on die materials, precision machining of working surfaces and tooling design. Traditional one-piece die designs are no longer able to fully meet the demands of the new production process.
Technological upgrading is helping to intensify technical exchanges between Chinese and foreign die manufacturers. Leading Chinese enterprises in the industry have already begun developing a new generation of temperature-controlled thermoforming dies, optimizing cooling channel designs and heat treatment technologies to adapt to new production processes.
In the long term, the widespread adoption of rapid forming technologies will lead to significant changes in the cost structure of production of hot stamped parts. This will encourage the Chinese stamping industry to shift from a copy-and-process model to self-developed technology and production processes, and will accelerate the natural selection of the most technologically advanced enterprises in the market.
